d1abe2bdc8 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Match formats supported by the device
Now that V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() returns a list of formats
to chose from, select the one supported by the video device by matching
against the list of supported pixel formats.

The first format found to match one of the device supported ones is
returned.

As the list of pixel formats supported by the video device does not
change at run-time, cache it at device open() time. Maximize the
lookup efficiency by storing the list of supported V4L2PixelFormat in an
std::unordered_set<>.

b7ca378b65 libcamera: v4l2_pixelformat: Return the list of V4L2 formats
Multiple V4L2 formats can be associated with a single PixelFormat.
Now that users of V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() have been converted
to use V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat(), return the full list of
V4L2 formats in order to prepare to match them against the ones
supported by the video device.

The V4L2 compatibility layer, not having any video device to interact
with, is converted to use the first returned format unconditionally.

45736468c8 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Reintroduce toV4L2PixelFormat()
This is a partial revert of commit 395d43d6d7 ("libcamera:
v4l2_videodevice: Drop toV4L2PixelFormat()")

The function was removed because it incorrectly maps non-contiguous V4L2
format variants (ie V4L2_PIX_FMT_YUV420M) to the API version supported
by the video device (singleplanar API and multiplanar API).  It was
decided at the time to remove the function and let its users call
directly V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() which accepts a
'multiplanar' flags.

As we aim to associate multiple V4L2PixelFormat to a single libcamera
format, the next patches will verify which of them is actually supported
by the video device. For now, return the contiguous version
unconditionally.

Re-introduce V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat() and convert all
the V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() users to use it.

The V4L2 compatibility layer is the only outlier as it doesn't have a
video device to poke, hence it still uses
V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat().

Next patches will implement the device format matching logic and handle
the non-contiguous plane issue in V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat().

c39b52c184 v4l2_videodevice: Disable the watchdog timer when no buffers are queued
Only enable/reset the watchdog timer when there are buffers queued in the V4L2
device. Otherwise, we may trigger spurious warnings when the watchdog times out
even if there are no buffers queued in the device.

16f3d2de50 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Add a dequeue timer
Add a timer that gets reset on every buffer dequeue event. If the timeout
expires, optionally call a slot in the pipeline handler to handle this
condition. This may be useful in detecting and handling stalls in either the
hardware or device driver.

5704856681 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Empty the V4L2 buffer cache on streamOff()
When streamOff() is called, ensure the cache entries for the remaining queued
buffers are freed since this will not happen via the dequeueBuffer() mechanism.

Additionally, add a V4L2BufferCache::isEmpty() function and assert that the
cache is empty at the end of the streamOff() call.

1fb71a6ffa libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Do not allow buffer queueing in stopping state
If the device is in the process of being stopped (i.e. Stopping state), any
call to queueBuffer() must fail. This is to ensure the integrity of the buffer
queue, as it gets cleared at the end of streamOff.

b24e39be48 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Clarify setting of v4l2_buffer timestamp
Add a comment to clarify why we set v4l2_buffer timestamp while
queuing the buffer (VIDIOC_QBUF). The timstamps are required to
be supplied for memory-to-memory devices for output streams which
then are copied to capture stream buffers with the help of
V4L2_BUF_FLAG_TIMESTAMP_COPY (set by the driver).

The struct v4l2_buffer documentation [1] clearly states
that setting of the sequence is done by the driver. libcamera does
not really need to set this field while queuing the buffer(s).

For consistency with UniqueFD, rename the fd() function to get().
Renaming UniqueFD::get() to fd() would have been another option, but was
rejected to keep as close as possible to the std::shared_ptr<> and
std::unique_ptr<> APIs.

The V4L2VideoDevice::open() function that takes an open file handle
duplicates it internally, and leaves the original handle untouched. This
is documented but not enforced through language constructs. Fix it by
passing a FileDescriptor to the function.

The V4L2Capability has helpers to interogate the capabilities
of a device.

V4L2VideoDevice::enumPixelformats accesses the raw capabilites to check
if the device is supported by a MediaController device.

Provide a helper, and update the usage.

1402152ad3 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Explain multiplanar bytesused reasoning
The ternary operation used to get the total bytesused of a V4L2 single
planar format which is stored in a multiplanar buffer can easily be
mis-read to think it's a bug, and appears to be reading the value of the
first of N planes as the total.

Directly explain the reasoning for why it looks like the condition is
inverted, as it is correct that the total bytes used is stored in only
the first plane of the multiplanar buffer.

5b39dc6d9b libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Improve debugging when buffer is too small
When a dequeued buffer is too small, the condition is logged and an
error is returned. The logged message doesn't provide any information
about the sizes, making debugging more difficult. Improve it by logging
both the bytesused value and the length of each plane.

The FrameBuffer class has no constructor that takes an rvalue reference
to planes. The std::move() is thus misleading as a copy will still take
place. Drop it to clarify the code, no functional change is introduced.

4cf7a8fc0b libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Handle unexpected buffers
A kernel bug can lead to unexpected buffers being dequeued where we
haven't entered the buffer in our queuedBuffers_ list.

This causes invalid accesses if not handled correctly within libcamera,
and while it is a kernel issue, we can protect against unpatched
kernels to provide a more suitable error message.

This is fixed in the kernel by commit c592b46907ad ("media:
videobuf2-core: dequeue if start_streaming fails") [0]

Handle unexpected buffers by returning a nullptr, and move cache
management after the validation of the buffer.

The number of metadata planes should always match the number of frame
buffer planes. Enforce this by making the vector private and providing
accessor functions.

As this changes the public API, update all in-tree users accordingly.

9df775c757 libcamera: framebuffer: Allocate metadata planes at construction time
The metadata planes are allocated by V4L2VideoDevice when dequeuing a
buffer. This causes the metadata planes to only be allocated after a
buffer gets dequeued, and doesn't provide any strong guarantee that
their number matches the number of FrameBuffer planes. The lack of this
invariant makes the FrameBuffer class fragile.

As a first step towards fixing this, allocate the metadata planes when
the FrameBuffer is constructed. The FrameMetadata API should be further
improved by preventing a change in the number of planes.

FrameBuffer may not match the number of V4L2 buffer planes if the
PixelFormat is multi-planar (has multiple colour planes) and the V4L2
format is single-planar (has a single buffer plane). In this case, we
need to coalesce all FrameBuffer planes into a single V4L2 buffer plane.
Do so, and add validity checks to reject frame buffers that can't be
described using a single V4L2 buffer plane.

This change prepares for proper multi-planar support, but isn't expected
to result in a change of behaviour with existing pipeline handlers, as
none of them queue an output buffer with multiple FrameBuffer planes or
use non-contiguous buffers for either capture or output.

88589a2531 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Take stride into account to compute offsets
When creating FrameBuffer instances, the V4L2VideoDevice computes plane
offsets using minimal stride for the format. This doesn't always produce
a valid result when the device requires padding at the end of lines. Fix
it by computing offsets using the stride reported by V4L2.

94cbaa381a libcamera: formats: Add planeSize() helpers to PixelFormatInfo
Add two helpers functions to the PixelFormatInfo class to compute the
byte size of a given plane, taking the frame size, the stride, the
alignment constraints and the vertical subsampling into account.

Use the new functions through the code base to replace manual
implementations.

395d43d6d7 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Drop toV4L2PixelFormat()
The V4L2VideoDevice::toV4L2PixelFormat() function is incorrectly
implemented, as it will pick a multi-planar format if the device
supports the multi-planar API, even if only single-planar formats are
supported. This currently works because the implementation calls
V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat(), which ignores the multiplanar
argument and always returns a single-planar format.

Fixing this isn't trivial. As we don't need to support multi-planar V4L2
formats at this point, drop the function instead of pretending
everything is fine, and call V4L2PixelFormat::fromPixelFormat() directly
from pipeline handlers. As the single-planar case is the most common,
set the multiplanar argument to false by default to avoid long lines.

3335d5a504 libcamera: Drop emitter object pointer from signal arguments
Many signals used in internal and public APIs carry the emitter pointer
as a signal argument. This was done to allow slots connected to multiple
signal instances to differentiate between emitters. While starting from
a good intention of facilitating the implementation of slots, it turned
out to be a bad API design as the signal isn't meant to know what it
will be connected to, and thus shouldn't carry parameters that are
solely meant to support a use case specific to the connected slot.

These pointers turn out to be unused in all slots but one. In the only
case where it is needed, it can be obtained by wrapping the slot in a
lambda function when connecting the signal. Do so, and drop the emitter
pointer from all signals.

V4L2VideDevice::createBuffer() creates the same number of
FrameBuffer::Planes as V4L2 format planes. Therefore, if the v4l2 format
single is single-planar format, the created number of
FrameBuffer::Planes is 1. It should rather create the same number of
FrameBuffer::Planes as the color format planes.

8708904fad libcamera: mapped_framebuffer: Return plane begin address by MappedBuffer::maps()
MappedBuffer::maps() returns std::vector<MappedBuffer::Plane>.
Plane has the address, but the address points the beginning of the
buffer containing the plane.
This makes the Plane point the beginning of the plane. So
MappedBuffer::maps()[i].data() returns the address of i-th plane.

a48a000a33 libcamera: Rename 'method' to 'function'
Usage of 'method' to refer to member functions comes from Java. The C++
standard uses the term 'function' only. Replace 'method' with 'function'
or 'member function' through the whole code base and documentation.
While at it, fix two typos (s/backeng/backend/).

The BoundMethod and Object::invokeMethod() are left as-is here, and will
be addressed separately.

ab09913acb libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Avoid extra construction of Framebuffer
While populating the V4L2BufferCache, avoid the extra construction of
FrameBuffer, which is currently done by passing the vector of
FrameBuffer::Planes. It is not wrong per se, but futile to have another
construction of FrameBuffer from a copy of buffer->planes() for the
corresponding Entry.

While it would be preferable to see these split to move one component
per commit, these components are all interdependent upon each other,
which leaves us with one big change performing the move for all of them.

1d8cc0a3ec libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: Prevent queueing buffers without a cache
The V4l2 buffer cache allows us to map incoming buffers to an instance
of the V4L2 buffer required to actually queue.

If the cache_ is not available, then the buffers required to allow
queuing to a device have been released, and this indicates an issue at
the pipeline handler.

This could be a common mistake, as it could happen if a pipeline handler
always requeues buffers to the device after they complete, without
checking if they are cancelled.

Catch any invalid queueing of buffers to the V4L2 video device when
resources have been released by adding a Fatal log message to highlight
the error during development.

5b568b7e41 libcamera: v4l2_videodevice: remove confusing memory MMAP assignment before QUERYBUF
QUERYBUF doesn't require the memory field to be pre-filled.
Also, V4L2VideoDevice::createBuffer uses dmabuf file descriptors, thus
using V4L2_MEMORY_MMAP makes things confusing, so remove it.

Track the state of streamon/streamoff calls to simplify error paths.

Ensuring that streamOff() can be called on non-streaming streams
facilitates simpler error code paths, where a set of devices can all
