Stefan Klug cdc2620549 libcamera: Add support for V4L2 requests
The V4L2 requests API provides support to atomically tie controls to a
set of buffers. This is especially common for m2m devices. Such a
request is represented by an fd that is allocated via
MEDIA_IOC_REQUEST_ALLOC and then passed to the various V4L2 functions.

Implement a V4L2Request class to wrap such an fd and add the
corresponding utility functions.

Milan Zamazal 978dc07222 config: Introduce global runtime configuration
Currently, libcamera can be configured in runtime using several
environment variables. With introducing more and more variables, this
mechanism reaches its limits. It would be simpler and more flexible if
it was possible to configure libcamera in a single file.

For example, there was a request to define pipeline precedence in
runtime. We want to compile in multiple pipelines, in order to have
them accessible within single packages in distributions. And then being
able to select among the pipelines manually as needed based on the
particular hardware or operating system environment. Having the
configuration file then allows easy switching between hardware, GPU or
CPU IPAs. The configuration file can also be used to enable or disable
experimental features and avoid the need to track local patches changing
configuration options hard-wired in the code when working on new
features.

This patch introduces basic support for configuration files.
GlobalConfiguration class reads and stores the configuration. Its
instance can be used by other libcamera objects to access the
configuration. A GlobalConfiguration instance is supposed to be stored
in a well-defined place, e.g. a CameraManager instance. It is possible
to have multiple GlobalConfiguration instances, which may or may not
make sense.

libcamera configuration can be specified using a system-wide
configuration file or a user configuration file. The user configuration
file takes precedence if present. There is currently no way to merge
multiple configuration files, the one found is used as the only
configuration file. If no configuration file is present, nothing
changes to the current libcamera behavior (except for some log
messages related to configuration file lookup).

The configuration file is a YAML file. We already have a mechanism for
handling YAML configuration files in libcamera and the given
infrastructure can be reused for the purpose. However, the
configuration type is abstracted to make contingent future change of the
underlying class easier while retaining (most of) the original API.

The configuration is versioned. This has currently no particular
meaning but is likely to have its purpose in future, especially once
configuration validation is introduced.

The configuration YAML file looks as follows:

  ---
  version: 1
  configuration:
    WHATEVER CONFIGURATION NEEDED

This patch introduces just the basic idea. Actually using the
configuration in the corresponding places (everything what is currently
configurable via environment variables should be configurable in the
file configuration) and other enhancements are implemented in the
followup patches.

Barnabás Pőcze a29c53f6a6 meson: Use libyaml wrap file from wrapdb
Use the libyaml wrap file from the meson wrapdb instead of
creating the wrap file manually and using the cmake module.
This provides better integration with meson, such as the
`force_fallback_for` built-in option.

This is also needed because the upstream CMakeLists.txt is
out of date, failing with a sufficiently new cmake version:

    CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:2 (cmake_minimum_required):
Compatibility with CMake < 3.5 has been removed from CMake.

The above is nonetheless addressed by https://github.com/yaml/libyaml/pull/314,
but the project seems a bit inactive at the moment.

The wrap file was added using `meson wrap install libyaml`,
and it can be updated using `meson wrap update libyaml`.

`default_library=static` is used to match the behaviour of the
previously used cmake build. `werror=false` needs to be set
because libyaml does not compile without warnings, and that
would abort the build process otherwise.

Laurent Pinchart b8d318ebeb meson: Store controls and properties YAML files in variables
When generating control headers, the YAML files to be used are
determined dynamically based on the selected pipeline handlers. As part
of this process, the build system populates an array of meson File
objects used as an input for the control headers generation custom
target, as well as an array of file names (as strings). The file names
array is later used to generate the control source files for the
libcamera core, as well as the source code for controls support in the
Python bindings.

Both of the source code generators manually turn the array of file names
into File objects. This duplicates code and reduces readability. A third
similar implementation has also been proposed to generate control
support sources in the GStreamer element, making the issue worse.

To simplify this, store File objects instead of file names in the
controls_files array. As the meson configuration summary doesn't support
File objects, create a separate controls_files_names to store the file
names for that sole purpose.

The exact same process occurs for properties, address them the same way.

vendor: rpi
controls:

      type: string
      description: |
        Test for libcamera vendor-specific controls.

This will now generate a control id in the libcamera::controls::rpi
namespace, ensuring no id conflict between different vendors, core or
draft libcamera controls. Similarly, a ControlIdMap control is generated
in the libcamera::controls::rpi namespace.

A #define LIBCAMERA_HAS_RPI_VENDOR_CONTROLS is also generated to allow
applications to conditionally compile code if the specific vendor
controls are present. For the python bindings, the control is available
with libcamera.controls.rpi.MyExampleControl. The above controls
example applies similarly to properties.

Existing libcamera controls defined in control_ids.yaml are given the
"libcamera" vendor tag.

A new --mode flag is added to gen-controls.py to specify the mode of
operation, either 'controls' or 'properties' to allow the code generator
to correctly set the #define string.

As a drive-by, sort and redefine the output command line argument in
gen-controls.py and gen-py-controls.py to ('--output', '-o') for

The dlopen() & co. functions are provided by libdl on some systems, and
but the C library on others. Starting from version 0.62.0, meson handles
this behind the scenes when using dependency('dl'). Add a todo comment
to remember we should replace the manual implementation with a

Declare a converter Abstract Base Class intended to provide generic
interfaces to hardware offering size and format conversion services on

The main change is the introduction of loadConfiguration() function
which can be used by the concrete implementation to load hardware
specific runtime parameters defined by the application.

Kieran Bingham 0aac297afd meson: Shared Object version handling
The libcamera project is not yet ready to declare ABI nor API stability,
but it will benefit the community to be able to provide more regular
release cycles to determine 'versioned' points of history.

Ideally, these releases will be made at any ABI breakage, but can be
made at arbitary time based points along the way.

To support releases which may not be ABI stable, declare the soversion
of both the libcamera and libcamera-base library to be dependant upon
both the major minor and patch component of the project version.

As part of this, introduce a new 'Versions' summary section to highlight
the different version components that may become apparent within any
given build.

Bumping versions may leave dangling libcamera.so.* symlinks in build
directories. This will confuse Doxygen which will print during its
directory scanning phase a warning that the symlink can't be read. As we
don't need Doxygen to follow symlinks, disable it with EXCLUDE_SYMLINKS.

Commit 036d26d667 ("test: threads: Test thread cleanup upon abnormal

caused a link breakage on some platforms:

/usr/bin/ld: /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libpthread.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line

Laurent Pinchart fe67032471 libcamera: Make IPA module signing recommended instead of mandatory
Commit b382f67c83 ("libcamera: Make IPA module signing mandatory for
the meantime") made openssl and gnutls dependencies mandatory to work
around the lack of proper IPA module isolation support, which broke
operation without module signatures. This has now been fixed, so IPA
module isolation isn't strictly required anymore.

There are few use cases for disabling module signing completely, given
that the openssl or gnutls dependencies are available on the vast
majority of systems and the overheard introduced by isolating all IPA
modules when signatures are not available is better avoided.
Nonetheless, libcamera should operate properly with forced IPA module
isolation, so we can support those use cases.

Adopt a middle-ground approach to avoid unintentional isolation by
documenting the dependencies as recommended, and warn at meson setup
time if they are not found.
