d997e97512 utils: codegen: Make users depend on controls.py in meson
Currently, modifying `controls.py` does not make those build targets dirty
that use a script that includes it (e.g. `gen-controls.py`) because meson
has no knowledge of this dependency. Add `depend_files` to each
`custom_target()` invocation to fix this.

Ideally it would be possible to attach this dependency to `gen_controls`,
`gen_gst_controls`, etc. objects themselves, so that repetition is
avoided, but this does not seem possible at the moment.

48f9660acd utils: codegen: gen-header.sh: Generate libcamera.h based on meson.build
The libcamera.h header is a top-level library header that contains every
other libcamera header. It is currently generated by listing the files
in include/libcamera/ and dropping the .in suffix from template files.
This assumes a 1:1 mapping between generated header file names and the
name of their templates.

Drop that assumption and base the libcamera.h generation on the
libcamera public headers listed in meson.build. This makes the
libcamera.h header generation more future-proof.

b8d318ebeb meson: Store controls and properties YAML files in variables
When generating control headers, the YAML files to be used are
determined dynamically based on the selected pipeline handlers. As part
of this process, the build system populates an array of meson File
objects used as an input for the control headers generation custom
target, as well as an array of file names (as strings). The file names
array is later used to generate the control source files for the
libcamera core, as well as the source code for controls support in the
Python bindings.

Both of the source code generators manually turn the array of file names
into File objects. This duplicates code and reduces readability. A third
similar implementation has also been proposed to generate control
support sources in the GStreamer element, making the issue worse.

To simplify this, store File objects instead of file names in the
controls_files array. As the meson configuration summary doesn't support
File objects, create a separate controls_files_names to store the file
names for that sole purpose.

The exact same process occurs for properties, address them the same way.

e18a007b9d libcamera: controls: Use vendor tags for draft controls and properties
Label draft controls and properties through the "draft" vendor tag
and deprecate the existing "draft: true" mechanism. This uses the new
vendor tags mechanism to place draft controls in the same
libcamera::controls::draft namespace and provide a defined control id
range for these controls. This requires moving all draft controls from
control_ids.yaml to control_ids_draft.yaml.

One breaking change in this commit is that draft control ids also move
to the libcamera::controls::draft namespace from the existing
libcamera::controls namespace. This is desirable to avoid API breakages
when adding new libcamera controls. So, for example, the use of
controls::NOISE_REDUCTION_MODE will need to be replaced with
controls::draft::NOISE_REDUCTION_MODE.

0455bbbf51 build: controls: Rework how controls and properties are generated
Add support for using separate YAML files for controls and properties
generation. The mapping of vendor/pipeline handler to control file is
done through the controls_map variable in include/libcamera/meson.build.

This simplifies management of vendor control definitions and avoids
possible merge conflicts when changing the control_ids.yaml file for
core and draft controls. With this change, libcamera and draft controls
and properties files are designated the 'libcamera' vendor tag.

In this change, we also rename control_ids.yaml -> control_ids_core.yaml
and property_ids.yaml -> property_ids_core.yaml to designate these as
core libcamera controls.

bd6658943a controls: Add vendor control/property support to generation scripts
Add support for vendor-specific controls and properties to libcamera.
The controls/properties are defined by a "vendor" tag in the YAML
control description file, for example:

vendor: rpi
controls:
  - MyExampleControl:
      type: string
      description: |
        Test for libcamera vendor-specific controls.

This will now generate a control id in the libcamera::controls::rpi
namespace, ensuring no id conflict between different vendors, core or
draft libcamera controls. Similarly, a ControlIdMap control is generated
in the libcamera::controls::rpi namespace.

A #define LIBCAMERA_HAS_RPI_VENDOR_CONTROLS is also generated to allow
applications to conditionally compile code if the specific vendor
controls are present. For the python bindings, the control is available
with libcamera.controls.rpi.MyExampleControl. The above controls
example applies similarly to properties.

Existing libcamera controls defined in control_ids.yaml are given the
"libcamera" vendor tag.

A new --mode flag is added to gen-controls.py to specify the mode of
operation, either 'controls' or 'properties' to allow the code generator
to correctly set the #define string.

As a drive-by, sort and redefine the output command line argument in
gen-controls.py and gen-py-controls.py to ('--output', '-o') for
consistency.

The base and ipa headers are meant to be installed in subdirectories of

failures when including the base or ipa header.

Fix this by setting the meson libcamera_include_dir variable to the

e8dc74317a libcamera: Define constants for pixel formats in the public API
libcamera uses pixel format FourCC and modifier values from DRM. This
requires inclusion of drm_fourcc.h, creating a dependency on a header
that is packaged differently between distributions, and causing possible
issues with third-party applications.

Define constants for the supported pixel formats in the new formats.h
public API header, in order to remove the dependency on drm_fourcc.h.
The header is generated by a Python script from a list of supported
formats. The numerical values for the FourCC and modifier are extracted
from drm_fourcc.h by the script, ensuring that numerical values are not
inadvertently modified and preserving the direct interoperability.

The pixel formats constants can't be generated solely from drm_fourcc.h,
as that header defines FourCC values and modifier values, but doesn't
list the valid combinations. The supported formats are thus stored in a
YAML file, which contains the FourCC and optional modifier for each
supported format. We may later extend the YAML file to include formats
documentation, and possibly formats metadata to populate the
pixelFormatInfo map (in formats.cpp) automatically.

Now that two formats.h header are present (one in include/libcamera/ and
one in include/libcamera/internal/), we need to explicitly qualify the
Doxygen \file directive with a path.

f934fd1cb9 libcamera: Move IPA headers from include/ipa/ to include/libcamera/ipa/
The IPA headers are installed into $prefix/include/libcamera/ipa/, but
are located in the source tree in include/ipa/. This requires files
within libcamera to include them with

 #include <ipa/foo.h>

while a third party IPA would need to use

 #include <libcamera/ipa/foo.h>

Not only is this inconsistent, it can create issues later if IPA headers
need to include each other, as the first form of include directive
wouldn't be valid once the headers are installed.

Fix the problem by moving the IPA headers to include/libcamera/ipa/.

93e72b695e libcamera: Move internal headers to include/libcamera/internal/
The libcamera internal headers are located in src/libcamera/include/.
The directory is added to the compiler headers search path with a meson
include_directories() directive, and internal headers are included with
(e.g. for the internal semaphore.h header)

  #include "semaphore.h"

All was well, until libcxx decided to implement the C++20
synchronization library. The __threading_support header gained a

  #include <semaphore.h>

to include the pthread's semaphore support. As include_directories()
adds src/libcamera/include/ to the compiler search path with -I, the
internal semaphore.h is included instead of the pthread version.
Needless to say, the compiler isn't happy.

Three options have been considered to fix this issue:

- Use -iquote instead of -I. The -iquote option instructs gcc to only
consider the header search path for headers included with the ""
version. Meson unfortunately doesn't support this option.

- Rename the internal semaphore.h header. This was deemed to be the
beginning of a long whack-a-mole game, where namespace clashes with
system libraries would appear over time (possibly dependent on
particular system configurations) and would need to be constantly
  fixed.

- Move the internal headers to another directory to create a unique
namespace through path components. This causes lots of churn in all
the existing source files through the all project.

The first option would be best, but isn't available to us due to missing
support in meson. Even if -iquote support was added, we would need to
fix the problem before a new version of meson containing the required
support would be released.

The third option is thus the only practical solution available. Bite the
bullet, and do it, moving headers to include/libcamera/internal/.

7a653369cb licenses: License all meson files under CC0-1.0
In an attempt to clarify the license terms of all files in the libcamera
project, the build system files deserve particular attention. While they
describe how the binaries are created, they are not themselves
transformed into any part of binary distributions of the software, and
thus don't influence the copyright on the binary packages. They are
however subject to copyright, and thus influence the distribution terms
of the source packages.

Most of the meson.build files would not meet the threshold of
originality criteria required for copyright protection. Some of the more
complex meson.build files may be eligible for copyright protection. To
avoid any ambiguity and uncertainty, state our intent to not assert
copyrights on the build system files by putting them in the public
domain with the CC0-1.0 license.

eb4030f6c0 libcamera: allocator: Add FrameBufferAllocator to help applications allocate buffers
The FrameBuffer interface is based on the idea that all buffers are
allocated externally to libcamera and are only used by it. This is meant
to create a simpler API centered around usage of buffers, regardless of
where they come from.

Linux however lacks a centralized allocator at the moment, and not all
users of libcamera are expected to use another device that could provide
suitable buffers for the camera. This patch thus adds a helper class to
allocate buffers internally in libcamera, in a way that matches the
needs of the FrameBuffer-based API.

8ea6912c96 libcamera: controls: Auto-generate control_ids.h and control_ids.cpp
Bring back auto-generation of control ids. In this version, both the
header and the source files are generated from a single YAML file that
stores all control definitions. This allows centralising controls in a
single file, while the previous version required keeping both
declarations (in a header) and documentation (in a the source) in sync
manually.

Using YAML as a format to store control definitions is a trade-off
between ease of use (there are many YAML parsers available) and
simplicity (XML was considered, but would have lead to more complex
processing). A new build time dependency is added on python3-yaml, which
should be available as a package in all distributions and build
environments.

The YAML format is likely to change over time as we improve
documentation of controls, the first version simply copies the
information currently available. Future improvements should also include
a YAML schema to validate the YAML source file.
